American Steel Buildings
American's have quickly recognized the advantages of metal buildings; but don't be fooled into thinking that they're all the same. When purchasing a steel building be sure to do your due diligence on the company you choose to purchase from. You may think all building are simply designed, sent to manufacturing and delivered to your door to be constructed; but underestimating the need to invest the extra money in these seemingly standardized processes can leave you wanting to kick yourself for trying to save an extra buck.
The first thing to consider is where your building is coming from. Building components created in the US are held to different standards than those abroad. Ask yourself, do you want to spend money on a product being produced and overseen by foreign workers in a country with lower standards than our own. Now what I'm saying is not that they produce poor products, because that is not a fair generalization. However, it is difficult to monitor the condition of outsourced productions because they are being made in another country far far away in an attempt to save money. If you do opt to purchase outside of the U.S. please take the time to investigate the company and its policies. Many outsourced production facilities work workers hard, train them minimally, treat them poorly, and pay them next to nothing. At what expense do you want to save a buck?
There are many advantages to purchasing from a US company that produces its buildings in the US. As I mentioned before, the high standards that US production companies are held to guarantees that your building is composed of materials that meet building codes. By purchasing from a US company that manufactures its buildings in the US you are investing in the US economy, something that we all to well know is needed right now. When working with someone in the US that you can more clearly communicate your needs and concerns to you are more likely to get a building that matches your expectations. With an American engineer designing your building you can be certain that your national and local building codes are known. Designing a steel building specifically to your areas needs, and not unnecessarily overbuilding, can save you in your material costs.
Furthermore, building with an American company reduces your carbon footprint. American production facilities are held to more restrictive pollution standards. Shorter shipping distances means less pollution from transportation, and typically faster delivery times; especially when companies have several different production facilities within the US. If you are building to meet LEED building standards, using local products even earns you LEED credits.
