How to dye or color just select parts of a bedspread (in this case small flowers)?

pretty sure its 100% cotton. the flowers are a light pink color and i would prefer them be a dusty barn red to go with my color scheme? thanks yall

I think the only way you could dye just part of a piece of fabric would be to put some kind of "resist" on every other part of the fabric.

I think it would be a better bet to simply dye the entire bedspread some other color. The flowers would likely still show up, as long as you don't dye it *too* dark a color, but they would be changed by the color that you dyed the rest of the bedspread.

Be sure to use a cold-water fiber-reactive dye rather than something like Rit.

edit: if you did have the patience to hand-paint each flower with dye, it might work, and if you did it carefully enough and with the right dye, it wouldn't run significantly. This site: http://www.pburch.net/dyeing.shtml is a good source for dyeing advice of all kinds.
