My painter told me that we should not worry about the asbestoes.?
We are not in the USA. We live in Australia. In Australia, we still used products made of asbestoes in the 1980s and 1990s. We live in the unit built of bricks. Our painter would remove the wall paper in our living room and kitchen and then paint all the walls. The walls were not built of drywalls. They were built of bricks and probably with cladding (cladding-I am not sure). I only know that between the bricks and the wallpaper, there is something that made the walls (made of bricks) smooth so that the wallpaper could be glued on the walls. We are worried that when the wallpaper comes down from the wall, asbestoes will come out. But the painter said that there is no need to have any precautionary measures. Please let us know if we are right or we are wrong.
Sounds like you are right. If asbestos is undisturbed and is not flaking apart, it will be safe. When it starts to come apart, or you break it up, it is VERY dangerous.
I have a problem taking the word of the painter on such a potentially hazardous substance. Call in a trained inspector or an asbestos remediation company ASAP.
Even if you have to pay a small charge for an inspection it is worth the piece of mind!
