Hand Tool
What are the top 5 hand tool makers?
I want to buy my partner a tool kit for our home but he is very fussy when it comes to quality. He works in the construction industry so they would have to be of a proffessional quality rather than home DIY (even though they are for use in the house). I can't ask him because he'll guess what he's getting for christmas hehe!
Hand Tools:
1. Craftsman (hand tools only - their power tools are substandard [a nice way to say they are pretty much junk])
2. Cobalt
3. Stanley
4. Snap-on or S-K (typically for the auto mechanic type; expensive but high quality)
5. Proto (professional line of Stanley)
I put Snap-on and Proto at the bottom of the list only because they are primarily for the professional and may be 'over the top' as far a cost. Don't get me wrong - they are very good - but may not be suited for your partner's line of work (ie, overkill). Or a better way to say it: In working construction - an electrician may be able to use a "normal" pipe wrench because they use it 1-2X per week; a plumber probably really does need the "pro" level because they use it every day.
As for power tools (drills, saws, etc):
1. Milwaukee (Power Tools)
1. Porter-Cable (Tie for 1st)
2. Bosch
2. DeWalt (Power Tools) (tie for 2nd)
3. Makita
4. Skill (tie for 4th)
Do not buy these for the professional:
- I would avoid "Husky" brand tools, hand tools and power tools alike, at all cost. They are overpriced for the quality.
- Harbor freight ("Chicago" brand electrical & "Pittsburgh" brand hand tools. While low cost, not made to survive daily use).
