Paint Finishing Booths – Embodying Modern Technological Excellence

Today’s automotive paint booth is a technological marvel. These come in various standard categories. You also have the option of ordering a customized version to suit your requirements. The standard types are the premier variety, a specially insulated variety, the full down draft, the semi down draft and the side down draft types besides the reverse flow and the front flow variants.

The special premier variant among these paint booths is made of specially galvanized steel panels in 18 gauge. The panels are punched to precision and formed. This helps in fast erection work at your site. Also standard are white powder coating of the heavy-duty quality and modular fabrication of panels. Whereas the powder coating aids in reducing energy and maintenance costs besides providing a durable finish the modular panels provide an easy method of extending in height and length during customization.

The heating and recirculating system is the direct variety that achieves a higher efficiency than the indirect variant. With the recirculation of the heated air further aiding in reduced fuel costs the net effect is one of a highly energy efficient system with significantly lower costs. In these paint booths, the air intake reaches right up to the ceiling with a filtration blanket of 10 microns. The change of filters is easy.

The light fixtures are strategically located to ensure the absence of shadows in the working area. The provision of lighting with inside access means that there are no outside covers. This implies that the dust remains outside and the exterior has a clean look. The doors are insulated and of the threefold type. There is one door for personnel at each end. The windows have tempered glass with hinges that can be adjusted. Panic bars have been provided.

These paint booths have an exhaust system under the central floor. The filters are easily accessed and disposed of. There is an option for a basement with ramps. The basement can be used in the full down draft spray booth so that you need not dig a separate pit under the floor of the building.

How To Paint Finished Car - Beginning To End?

I want to paint a mural on our PT Cruiser, but it's paint is still in perfect condition. How do I go about this without ruining the car? What paint types, technique, finishes, etc? I really don't want to ruin this, and I'll speak with a professional, but I just want to know a little going in. Thanks for any and all help!
@ AL: I've been studying art for 16 years, and know all I need to about the actual artwork, just not how to do it on a car, permanently.

First, you will need to buy a very good quality "top loading" airbrush paint gun. Do not buy one that sucks the paint out of a jar mounted below the spray gun as they are very cumbersome. You will also need an air compressor to use with the airbrush. Using an airbrush is very different than using a bristle brush to paint a picture, so practicing on a piece of sheet metal or an old hood is a good idea.

Next, you will need to prep whatever panels on the car you are planning to paint on. You will need a sanding sponge and some 1500 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper. Remove any necessary hardware from the panels, i.e. door handles, belt moldings, side view mirrors..etc. Then wet sand the panels with the 1500 grit sandpaper wrapped around the sanding sponge, keeping the panel and sand paper wet during sanding. Sand the paint until the panel is smooth without sanding through the factory clear coat. Use a grey scotch brite pad to scuff any spots you can't easily reach with the sandpaper. There should be no shiny spots left on the panel before painting.

You will need to go to a store that sells automotive paint and get some base coat paint in whatever colors you need for the mural, you will also need the appropriate reducer to go with it to make it sprayable. A qualified counter person will be able to help you choose the right colors and the amount needed.

Mask off any areas of the car you don't want to get overspray on and then paint your mural. Automotive paint is much thinner than artists paint so you might have to make several passes over the same areas to get proper coverage, allowing the paint to dry between coats.

After painting the mural, have someone with experience spraying automotive paints spray 2 or 3 coats of clear coat over the entire panel. When the clear coat is dry, sand to remove any dust specks or lines from the mural and buff to a shine.

Good Luck.
