"Panel cutters" fall into 2 basic categories, horizontal and vertical. Vertical panel saws typically cost less than horizontal, but I find the horizontal machines are more accurate, as they do not allow the part being cut to move out of alignment with the blade, or into and out of the saw blade (depth of cut).

The saw motor/blade mounts onto a 'sled' consisting of the saw mounting plate, and guides. This sled is called a "traverse" by some parts companies.
