I need wheels for asphalt. Can i go lower in size?
I have the cheapest recreational skates. The bladerunner 78 MM Max Wheel size. But I have been playing hockey with them on a really rough surface. I gone through 3 sets already and all wear off in a month. So i found some Mission DSX premium Asphalt Inline Hockey wheels, I have the the option of 59 mm and 68 mm. and my question is can I go lower in size and put these wheels on my bladerunner?
Yes, you can use smaller wheels, up to the point where your frames or brake scrape on the ground but they will not roll as well or wear as long as the larger wheels.
If you are playing hockey, you want the brake removed from the skates anyway.
Look to see if you can actually use 80mm wheels. There are a lot more choices of wheels, they will roll better, and they will last longer.
Look at the space between the axles, you need 80.5mm (3 5/16") between the axles.
Look above the second wheel, this is where the boot is closest to the wheels.
Look at the rear frame mounting screw, sometimes they are longer than needed and can be cut shorter.
Look at the brake and it's mounting. Frequently a limit to wheel size but since you don't want a brake for hockey it should be no issue.
