Peroneal Tear

Hello! I'm a musical theatre major at Texas State Univ. I'm 19 years old and have been dancing for about 2 years, ever since I decided to major in Musical Theatre. I've taken principally ballet, with a number of jazz courses here and there. I'm still considerably of a beginner yet I have good facility, and the potential to be an excellent dancer.

Apart from all of this, I'm additionally very athletic. I weight practice 4-5 times every week, working with a trainer.

Earlier today, I went to the health club to weight train. I was going to do squats, so I made sure to stretch my legs sufficiently. I often do a stretch routine of about 15-20 minutes before entering into any workout. I was all stretched out and ready to begin the squat machine. Nonetheless, I felt that I needed to "heat up" a little bit more, and told my trainer that he could go to the lavatory while I ran a lap around the track.

I began to run, and three steps into it, I had an improper touchdown on my left ankle, causing the foot to roll in. I heard a SNAP! And I was unable to walk anymore…

My trainer came and asked me what happened. I informed him that I landed wrong and snapped something. He then went and obtained ice to prevent the swelling in my ankle.

To make a long story short, I went to a doctor here in school that checked throughout the ankle. She diagnosed me as having injured my peroneal tendon. She stated that it didn't appear too harmful, and that I would have to keep off of it for a while. She additionally wants me to go see a therapist for recovery.

My question is that this: Will I be capable to dance professionally (not essentially in a corps de ballet, but on Broadway.)? How will this injury have an effect on my ballet? I do know that the peroneal tendon is significant within the execution of certain steps/workouts; however do you suppose that this will have long-term results?

Thanks in advance, Joseph

There are 2 peroneal muscles, the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis. They run along the outside of the calf with the brevis attaching to the 5th metatarsal, and the longus continuing under the foot to the primary metatarsal.

The peroneal muscle is strained whenever you sprain your ankle. Usually a peroneal tendon strain occurs precisely as you described where you land on the outside edge of your foot and roll over on it. It's common to hear a pop or a snap with some rapid swelling occurring.

I'm glad to hear the doctor feels it was minor, and I'm imagining you are strolling with either an elastic bandage to help keep swelling down, or perhaps if it was a more severe pressure you may be utilizing an air cast or lace-up ankle brace. Ibuprofen or an anti-inflammatory may have been prescribed as well.

It's a superb idea to see a physical therapist for rehabilitation. You will have to strengthen the peroneal muscle and to work on improving proprioception at the joint. (Balancing exercises)

Steadiness, even for non-dancers, must be addressed regularly. The one method to enhance balance is to working towards balancing. The one strategy to keep good stability is to proceed practicing. In case you don't use it - you lose it! (It is a main problem in our aged population)

Everyone recovers from harm at a different rate. How long it takes you to return from this injury is determined by the severity of the strain. It may very well be a few weeks to a few months.

Your first objectives are to walk straight ahead without limping or pain, then to have equal strength to the uninjured ankle, as well as equal range of motion as in comparison with the unhurt ankle. As your stability and strength improves you'll challenge it more - however don't be in a rush!

This harm not solely has to maintain you from an expert profession - it is extremely possible that because of this damage you'll ultimately be stronger and more balanced in your movement. When you're working with the physical therapist or trainer they'll evaluate your gait and search for different asymmetries that may have been contributing elements to this injury. Don't worry, give attention to every gain, and keep a powerful mental intention about your full recovery. Peroneal strain generally is a short-term set-back, but typically not a permanent problem.

On with the dance!

did i do the right thing !!! help !!?

ok so there is this guy at my univ that is reaaaally in love with me , but i consider it wierd cuz i've only known'em for like 3 weeks !! i like him, he's kinda cute and strong but yet he's not my type and the problem is dat he is a shortie , but i consider him as a friend ,tho he dosent get that . anyways today i told'em so , that he's not my type and i wouldnt ever date a guy that is shorter than me ( am like 5'7 and he's 5'5 or sth and i just love guys that is taller than me) and i did so cuz i wanna tell'em that am not his gf and i dont love him , did i do the right thing ? cuz i said to myself that if i kept on goin with him and didnt tell him he'll get more attached to me and it would be too late to tell him that :

You did the right thing in saying he is not your type but you broke his heart by telling him he is a shorty. But thats not repairable now.
By the way tall guys cheat on their wives because women are always throwing themselves at them. Short guys honor and respect their taller wives and virtually never cheat on them. That is because they feel so lucky to have them and treat them like queens.
I have never met a single woman that was married to a shorter man that wasn`t absolutely in gah gah love with her short man and him with her.

Glad you asked
