How do I turn White Oak Bark into powder?
I purchased white oak bark online thinking it would be in powdered form, with a consistency matching that of brown sugar or so, instead it came as bits of bark in the form of wood chips. Any idea on how i could turn this into powder?
Unfortunately, appliances that most people have at home, such as a blender, coffee grinder, food processor, mortar & pestle, cannot properly do the job. I used to go through a long process with a coffee grinder, where after putting bark chips in for a couple of minutes, I would sift out the powder and re-grind the rest. You can only do this for so long before the grinder motor starts to overheat, and it only ends up powdering about 1/3 of the bark anyways.
If you can find somebody that has a flour mill (designed to turn grains into flour) this will do the job quite well. Some health food stores have these for grinding their own flour, and will likely let you use theirs, so ask around.
