What determines if something gives off multiple reflections?
This may be a dumb question...I'm not a physics major.
Sometimes panes of glass or mirrors (anything reflective) that are next to each other but separated give off individual reflections, and sometimes that one reflection is continued into the different sections. For example, I am looking in a big window at myself with many panes separated by wood, and my reflection continues on to each pane instead of showing individual reflections of the room. What determines this?
suppose you had one big mirror, and put tape on it in a grid of vertical and horizontal lines.
if you then look into the mirror, you'll see an image interrupted by lines.
if you have a multi-pane mirror where all the panes are in a single flat plane, you'll see the same as if you'd put lines of tape on a single mirror.
on the other hand, if you have an evenly curved surface, and you glue mirrors onto that surface, if you stand in the right place, you should be able to see an image of yourself in every single mirror. That is, you're looking straight into each mirror, and see yourself.
I think this talks about what you're asking. If not, you'll have to improve the question.
